SAM Responds to AOG Aircraft Services Request

The aviation industry is a complex one that requires a great deal of expertise and skill to keep aircraft flying safely. One of the most important aspects of aviation maintenance is the ability to respond quickly to unexpected situations that arise, such as an Aircraft on Ground (AOG services) request. Sky Aircraft Maintenance (SAM) recently had an AOG service request that required our Chief Inspector to spring into action to get the aircraft back in the air as soon as possible.

    What is an AOG request?

AOG Aircraft Repair - Sky Aircraft Maintenance

AOG stands for Aircraft on Ground, which refers to an aircraft that is unable to fly or make it to a repair station due to a mechanical issue.

These requests are typically urgent and require a quick response and logistics from maintenance teams to get the aircraft back in the air as soon as possible.

When an AOG services request comes in, time is of the essence, and the maintenance team must work quickly and efficiently to identify and resolve the issue.

Aircraft On Ground situations can occur at any time, day or night, and can be caused by various issues, including engine failures, hydraulic system malfunctions, or electrical issues.

    Our Recent AOG Response

Our team received an AOG maintenance request late Friday afternoon from a client based out of Winston-Salem Airport. The aircraft had an LH starter generator issue, which prevented it from flying.

A couple of technicians quickly loaded up the sprinter van with the necessary tools and equipment and drove to the airport. Once on-site, they quickly assessed the situation and determined that the root cause of the issue was a failed starter generator spline adapter.

With the root cause identified, they began the process of procuring the necessary parts to repair the aircraft.

They obtained the part from Gulfstream in Savannah and drove back to Winston Salem with the part in hand on Saturday. Once on-site, they quickly installed the new part and starter generator and conducted operational checks to ensure the aircraft was ready to fly.

Thanks to our team’s expertise and swift action, the aircraft was returned to service in less than 24 hours.
